A truly memorable day for Scouts on Brownsea Island!

Today, a group of our Scouts had the fantastic opportunity to visit the birthplace of Scouting, Brownsea Island, for a very special event hosted by the National Trust.
The day was packed with conservation and nature-based activities, including identifying moths, building bug habitats, helping to restore natural habitats by clearing bracken and exploring the island’s incredible wildlife.
A real highlight was meeting Dame Rachel de Souza, Children’s Commissioner for England, who visited Brownsea Island to launch The Big Future, a national survey giving young people the chance to share their views on the future, voting, digital change, and what childhood looks like today. It was an inspiring opportunity for our Scouts to meet someone championing the voices of children across England and to hear why their opinions matter.
The day was topped off with an afternoon of water sports, where everyone enjoyed kayaking around the island. It wasn’t long before the paddles started flying and plenty of splashing followed, with Scouts and leaders alike getting soaked! It was the perfect way to round off an unforgettable day full of learning, adventure and laughter.
We’re incredibly proud of how our Scouts represented 1st Parkstone Scout Group and the wider Scouting movement showing enthusiasm, respect, curiosity and a willingness to get stuck into every activity.
A huge thank you to the National Trust team on Brownsea Island, the volunteers who organised such a fantastic programme, and Dame Rachel de Souza and her team for taking the time to meet and inspire the next generation.

From organising the day and supporting the activities to joining in the kayaking (and the inevitable soaking!), your commitment gives our Scouts experiences and memories that will last a lifetime.
