All young people part of 1st Parkstone Scout Group are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities as part of their programme, including traditional Scouting skills such as camping, survival and cooking, as well as a wider spectrum of adventurous activities, from caving to expeditions and archery, shooting and Kayaking, as 1st Parkstone Scout Group is an Air Scout unit some of the program is based around air activity’s too which is unique to normal scouting.
Participation rather than meeting set standards is the key approach, and there are a number of challenges awards and activity badges that Scouts can gain during their time in the section to recognise their achievements.
Scouts aims to build and develop young people’s confidence, sense of adventure and outdoor skills, as well as encouraging them to explore their beliefs and attitudes and be creative. It offers them the independence to put these skills into practice at camps and trips away.
Being outdoors is important and half the programme is given over to taking part in both the traditional Scouting skills, such as camping, survival and cooking as well as the wide range of adventurous activities, anything from abseiling to hill walking. We run camps during the year that consist of a weekend away under canvas at our local campsite.
Most Scouts move up from our Cub Pack, although if you are new to Scouting you can still join us. To check for availability, please go to the Join page and send us your details.
